I would recommend installing it on both platforms if you can to which setup you like better. When you play with the touch screen, you can freeze the action for a moment and aim your character’s jump, which buys you a little bit of time and makes the game a bit easier. At first I liked the TV and Xbox controller combo better, but the more I played on the iPhone, the more I grew to love that control scheme. Speaking of controls, I have made it to the end of the game multiple times on both Apple TV and the iPhone. The tutorial does a good job explaining the gameplay and runs you through some simple training sessions to get used to the controls. And your weapon is random too switching gun types every 10 seconds or so. You need to escape a dungeon using a somewhat random series of elevators, rooms, bosses, and item shops. I admit that I didn’t really follow the storyline from the intro, and I don’t think you really need to. You select from one of four starting characters, whose unique abilities aren’t all that powerful, and your only goal is to Exit the Gungeon.

As someone who didn’t play much of Enter the Gungeon (the game’s predecessor), I didn’t really know what to expect other than a frantic and challenging game with lots and lots of bullets. Of all the Apple Arcade launch games that I’ve played, Exit the Gungeon is one of the most enjoyable and addicting experiences so far. Exit the Gungeon is a bullet hell rogue-like elevator game that’s impossible to put down.
